Sensific's amperometric Dissolved Oxygen (DO) Sensor uses a membrane system that extends the lifetime of amperometric electrodes (Clark cells). The key to our invention is a dual purpose membrane for the electrode - one which will permit selective element permeability simultaneously with anion exchange reactions with available ions in the analyzed fluid. This anion exchange process maintains the internal electrolyte composition approximately constant, leading to long-term stability without a large internal electrolyte volume. This patented technology allows the construction of a sensor that is much simpler to manufacture and is as accurate as and easier to use than current competitive technologies at 5% of the cost.
In fact at less than the cost of current sensors' membrane and electrolyte replacement kits, this sensor itself becomes a consumable, allowing for "one-time-use" applications. This technique also allows the grouping of other sensors for pH and temperature on the same substrate.

Markets:
We're taking our DO Sensor to the following markets:
Environmental DO Sensor
Sensific is in discussions with a well known field monitoring company to establish a partnership and distribution agreement for its Dissolved Oxygen Sensor in the environmental monitoring market.
Single-Use Bioreactor Sensor
Sensific is also in the later stages of a development program to create a sensor compatible with the emerging biomed, disposable bioreactor market. Preliminary trials, including biocompatibility testing, indicate strong potential to incorporate our existing DO and pH Sensors into single-use bioreactors.
High Fouling Waste Water Sensor
Sensific's DO Sensor's lower cost makes it ideal for application in high fouling, waste water, industrial applications. Due to the high fouling nature of the environment, conventional sensors require frequent cleaning, calibration and replacement. In contrast, Sensific's inexpensive micro-sensor can be cost-competitively replaced on a periodic maintenance schedule without the need to recalibrate or clean the sensor.
Additional Opportunities
At Sensific, we are excited about the potential uses of a low cost, single use DO or a combined DO, pH and Temperature micro-sensor and are looking for strategic partners to co-develop those opportunities.
pH Sensor

Capitalizing on our membrane understanding, Sensific has recently developed a low cost, potentiometric pH microsensor suitable for lab or field use. The pH Sensor combines low cost with sensitivity, accuracy and the ability to function with existing pH meters.
The pH Sensor is available as either a stand alone probe or in combination with DO and/or temperature. We are also in the later stages of development on a potentiometric Ammonium Sensor and anticipate developing a family of potentiometric sensors for most common Cations or Anions.
